Hoʻāla is the exclusive offset emissions program brought to you by Island Energy Services. Only at Island Energy Services Texaco branded stations in Hawai‘i can you participate in a drive to Hoʻāla, or “rise up and make new.”
Through a partnership with GreenPrint, an environmental technology company, our customers’ vehicle emissions are calculated monthly using fuel volume data and factors from the EPA, EIA, and other environmental agencies. GreenPrint then invests proportionally in certified carbon reduction projects to offset our customers' vehicle emissions by up to 30%. GreenPrint’s data sources and calculations are attested to on a yearly basis by EY.
Hoʻāla is the easiest step in helping to lower your carbon footprint. You don’t have to do anything extra to participate and there’s no additional cost. Simply continue to fill up at Island Energy Texaco branded stations in Hawaiʻi, and the Hoʻāla program will invest proportionally in certified carbon reduction projects to offset your vehicle’s carbon emissions by up to 30%.
Our customers’ CO2 emissions will be reduced by up to 30%, depending on the grade of fuel they use.
Based on the fuel volume sold at Island Energy Services Texaco branded stations in Hawaiʻi locations, GreenPrint calculates the carbon dioxide emissions emitted using factors (i.e. pounds of CO2 per gallon of petroleum burned) from the EIA, EPA, and other reputable institutions.
Hoʻāla will partner with local organizations that execute environmental and sustainability programs within Hawaiʻi. We are partnered with Mālama Learning Center, a non-profit organization that brings art, science, conservation, and culture together to promote sustainable living throughout Hawaiʻi. Located in West Oʻahu, in the city of Kapolei, Mālama Learning Center offers their services primarily to communities from Waipahu to Waiʻanae. Hoʻāla will continue to foster partnerships with organizations in the communities of our customers and we urge you to stay informed by visiting this website and following Texaco in Hawaiʻi on social media.
Carbon Offsets and Projects
A certified carbon offset is a certificate representing the reduction, destruction or capture of one metric ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Certified carbon offsets are produced by certified carbon reduction projects. These projects must follow strict guidelines established by internationally recognized standards in order to generate certified carbon offsets.
Carbon offsets are purchased to negate a CO2 equivalent emission. Offsets are certified and exchanged, much like stocks, via one of the officially recognized carbon registries such as Gold Standard, Climate Action Reserve and Verified Carbon Standard.
A certified carbon reduction project is a project specifically designed to reduce, capture or destroy greenhouse gases that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere. An example is a methane gas capture project at a landfill.
There are many different types of carbon offset projects that avoid, reduce, destroy, or capture the emission of greenhouse gases. Project types include renewable energy, such as wind farms, biomass energy, or hydroelectric dams. Others include energy efficiency projects, the destruction of industrial pollutants or agricultural byproducts, greenhouse gas abatement, zero till cropping, destruction of landfill methane, and forestry projects.
